SDJFC TRAFFIC LIGHT SYSTEM - SUPPORTER CONDUCT 

At Beighton Juniors Football Club, we are committed to creating a safe, enjoyable and respectful environment where every child can develop a lifelong love of football.

We proudly support and adopt the Sheffield & District Junior Sunday League Traffic Light Behaviour Framework and the principles of The FA Respect Programme.

Every parent, carer, family member, supporter, volunteer and club official plays an important role in creating a positive football experience for our players. Children should be encouraged, supported and allowed to enjoy football without fear of criticism, intimidation or inappropriate behaviour from adults.

OUR COMMITMENT

  • Protect children from abuse or intimidation.
  • Encourage education before disciplinary action wherever appropriate.
  • Apply our Behaviour Traffic Light Framework fairly and consistently.

🟢 GREEN - POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR

This is the standard expected from everyone attending Beighton Juniors Football Club activities.

Examples of Green Behaviour

  • Encouraging all players.
  • Respecting referee decisions.
  • Supporting coaches and volunteers.
  • Applauding effort from both teams.
  • Remaining positive regardless of the result.
  • Allowing coaches to coach and players to learn.
  • Demonstrating excellent sportsmanship.

No action is required.

Positive behaviour helps create the environment every child deserves.

 

🟡 AMBER – BEHAVIOUR REQUIRES INTERVENTION

Amber behaviour is where standards begin to fall below expectations but can usually be corrected through early intervention and education.

Examples of Amber Behaviour

  • Repeatedly shouting tactical instructions.
  • Publicly questioning referee decisions.
  • Negative comments towards players.
  • Challenging opposition supporters.
  • Becoming argumentative on the touchline.
  • Excessive emotional reactions affecting the match environment.

FIRST AMBER WARNING

If an Amber incident occurs:

  • A Beighton Juniors coach or club official will speak privately with the individual.
  • The concern will be explained.
  • The individual will be reminded of the Club's Behaviour Policy and The FA Respect Programme.
  • They will be asked to stop the behaviour immediately.

SECOND AMBER WARNING

If a second Amber warning is received during the same season:

  • The incident will be formally recorded.
  • The individual will be asked to leave the touchline with immediate effect.
  • The Club Welfare Officer will meet with the individual to discuss the incident.
  • Before returning to support their child from the sidelines, the individual must complete a safeguarding and positive touchline behaviour awareness course approved by Beighton Juniors Football Club.
  • Evidence of course completion must be provided to the Club Welfare Officer before permission to return to the touchline is granted.
  • Any further behavioural concerns may result in the matter being escalated to a Red-level breach.

WHY WE TAKE THIS APPROACH

Our aim is to educate rather than punish. We believe that positive role models create positive football environments, and education helps ensure every child enjoys the game.

 

 

🔴 RED – UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR

The following behaviours will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

  • Swearing or abusive language.
  • Aggressive or threatening behaviour.
  • Bullying or intimidation.
  • Racist, sexist, homophobic or discriminatory behaviour.
  • Confronting referees, coaches, players or volunteers.
  • Entering the field of play without permission.
  • Physical aggression or attempted assault.
  • Any behaviour that places a child or volunteer at risk.
  • Any conduct that brings Beighton Juniors Football Club or the Sheffield & District Junior Sunday League into disrepute.

IMMEDIATE CLUB ACTION

Where a Red incident occurs, the individual may:

  • Be instructed to leave the venue immediately.
  • Be suspended from attending Beighton Juniors Football Club activities pending investigation.
  • Be referred to the Club Welfare Officer and Club Committee.
  • Be reported to the Sheffield & District Junior Sunday League and Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA where appropriate.

 

 

LEAGUE SANCTIONS

In accordance with the resolution adopted by the Sheffield & District Junior Sunday League Annual General Meeting held on 23 July 2026, any parent, carer or registered supporter found to have committed a Red-level breach of the League's Parent & Supporter Behaviour Framework will be subject to the League's disciplinary procedures.

Where the League determines that the breach meets the threshold established under the AGM resolution:

  • The registered player's membership with their club may be withdrawn for the remainder of the playing season in which the breach occurred.
  • The player's registration within the Sheffield & District Junior Sunday League may also be be revoked for the remainder of that season.
  • Any such action will be administered by the League in accordance with its disciplinary procedures, following any investigation and any applicable right of appeal.

Beighton Juniors Football Club will fully support and comply with all disciplinary decisions made by the Sheffield & District Junior Sunday League.

DEDICATED WELFARE LEADERSHIP 

At Beighton Juniors Football Club, player welfare is led by our dedicated Committee Welfare Officer, Tim Maggs, who has successfully completed The Football Association's Welfare Officer training and certification.

Tim plays a vital role in ensuring that safeguarding and welfare remain at the heart of everything we do. His FA-accredited training provides him with the knowledge, skills and confidence to support children, parents, coaches and volunteers, while ensuring the club meets and exceeds the safeguarding standards expected of an FA England Accredited Club.

As Committee Welfare Officer, Tim is responsible for promoting a safe and inclusive environment, providing guidance on safeguarding matters, supporting families, and ensuring that any concerns are handled professionally, confidentially and in line with FA safeguarding procedures.

Working alongside our coaches, committee members and parents, Tim helps foster a culture where every child feels safe, respected and able to enjoy football. His commitment to continuous learning and professional development reflects Beighton Juniors FC's belief that safeguarding is not just a requirement—it's a responsibility that underpins everything we do.

We always put the wellbeing and development of every boy first, whether that's assessing their ability to ensure they are playing at the right level to develop and excel, or providing additional support and encouragement to those who may need it. We work closely and transparently with parents and carers, believing that open communication and strong partnerships are essential in supporting every child's football journey.
